Mount Bromo & Ijen Crater 4D3N (Y2018 Mid-Term Trek)
Taking a break from our studies, SMUX Trekking planned an exciting 4D3N trip to the famous Mount Bromo & Ijen Crater, located in Indonesia. On the first day, we camped overnight to catch the sunrise at Mount Penanjakan. Subsequently, we explored the amazing Mount Bromo and trekking up the Ijen Crater at night, to capture the legendary Blue Flame Ijen Crater with our eyes.
Despite the flight delay of one hour, we managed to rendezvous with our tour guide shortly after arriving at Juanda International Airport. Honestly, we were all famished by then… It was well past our lunch time and we had a long journey ahead of us.
We quickly settle the introduction and gunned straight for our lunch location. (Honestly, the food was amazing and was one of the best place we have eaten in Indonesia! Or maybe, we were just too hungry T_T....)
After our amazing lunch, we finally made it to our camping site before midnight strikes 😰. Honestly, it was like FREEEEEZING COLD up there. It was like single digit degree up there. Thankfully, we managed to layer up before reaching the summit and had our campfire to keep us all warm and fuzzy. Besides the campfire, we had our tour guides to cook dinner for us and got to enjoy the amazing starry night 😍. There wasn’t much actions during the night… But here come all the AMAZING times!
After having a good night rest, we woke up at 4:30AM to catch the sunrise on Mount Penanjakan. Everyone was taken aback by the fabulous scenery and start scrambling around taking TONS of photos. The view was really amazing and sick. We could see the faraway Mount Bromo where we will be traveling via the Jeep later. Really can’t wait to travel to Mount Bromo and Ijen Crater!
To arrive at Mount Bromo, we took the jeep to the “Sea Of Sands” where we were faced with a vast land filled with sands. Thankfully, the tour package provided us transportation (horses!!!) across the Sea Of Sand 😝. It was an amazing experience for all of us riding horses, especially those without any prior experience 🙂.
After a 15minutes of horse-ride, we finally arrived at Mount Bromo! This was the first highlight of our trip and the place was crowded with tourists. Apparently, there was this legend where if you are able to throw a bundle of flowers straight down into the center of the crater, you will be blessed with good luck for the rest of the year!!! Of course, there was participants who bought the flowers and tried to toss it over… But it seems like an impossible feat as there was too many fissures for the flowers to get stuck in 😑…
After the whole day of traveling around, we were starved 😫. Apparently, everyone was so tired with the whole morning of adventure that we did not bother to take any photos of food and start feasting away 😂. Look at those serious looks on her face, eyes fixed on the food and feasting away man.
Reaching our hotel marks the end of the planning for the day. We grabbed our own dinner and rest up before the climax of the trip – The Blue Flame Ijen Crater!.
After about 4 hours of trekking, all of us managed to arrive at the center of Ijen Crater successfully. Due to the amount of sulfuric gas, we wasn’t able to proceed further in to grab a good photo of the shot… However, take a look at the video where our tour guide braced himself and took a close-up shot for us!!! It was really magnificent when the haze cleared up (for a short moment though 😫). We continue to hang and chill around until the sky starts to brighten up a little!
These pretty much wraps up the amount of fun and adventure we had during the trip! It was a really enjoyable 3D2N trekking with these bunch of people and definitely an unforgiveable trip! We spent our last remaining day going around the highlights in Surabaya before boarding our flights at Juanda International Airport 😭
