Gunung Berembun (Y2018 Mid-Term Trek)

Mid-Term Trek – Gunung Berembun (Cameron Highland)

[28 Feb – 2 March]

Taking a break from our studies, the trek team decided on having a short and relaxing 2D2N trip to Cameron Highlands during the mid-term recess week. In this trip, we will be spending one day to trek up Gunung Berembun for a mini adventure and another day exploring the various attractions in Cameron Highland.

A brief introduction to Gunung Berembun - Gunung Berembum is a mountain 1,840 meters tall located in Cameron Highland, Pahang, Malaysia. Gunung Berembun is a protected primary forest reserve, which is a very rare thing in Malaysia. Most forests located in Malaysia are secondary forests which have either been selectively logged or completely cleared and re-planted.

Before climbing up the mountain, we will have to first embark on a 8 hour night ride from Singapore to reach Cameron Highlands. (Of course, everyone falls asleep… and there will always be a evil fellow snapping sleeping shots of the team)

After reaching Cameron Highland, the team was “rejuvenated” from their sleep in the van. So we moved onto filling our tummy and preparing ourselves for the first event of the day – trekking up Gunung Berembum !

As expected, the journey towards the summit of Gunung Berembum was relatively easy and straight-forward. However, we faced a little difficulty. Due to the weather in the early day, the path seems to be a little damp and slippery. So, we had to be extra caution in every step we take while climbing up the mountain!

All in all, we managed to complete our trekking in Gunung Berembun without any accident. With time to spare, we decided to head towards Mossy Forest –another mountain range with an elevation of 1,800 meters. Travelling into Mossy Forest, we were able to see and enjoy the gorgeous bird-eye view of the area.

It was our second and final day in Cameron Highlands. We decided to spend our time exploring the various attractions Cameron Highlands have to offered such as the Boh Tea Plantation and Strawberry Farm. We were also met up with our fellow trekker, Samuel, who has suddenly decided to visit Cameron Highlands.

As they say, all great things must come to an end. We had a wonderful time in Cameron Highlands and we sure wish we can continue our lifestyle there (well, avoiding the stress from studying in Singapore). This was an enjoyable trip which we have no regrets going for.

Before I end off, let me share with you guys a special little something! Presenting our very cupid, Jackson!
