Hello everyone!
Just yesterday, 23 of us went to Gunung Lambak for a day trek. We met super early at 6.30am at SMU! The driver said it would be better to meet early so that we can beat the jam. Most of us were punctual but unfortunately, the driver was not! The bus did come at around 7.10am and to our surprise, it was a 40 seater. The bus looked a lot like a space ship and was very roomy for all 23 of us. The bus dropped us off at the customs and we changed to two small vans.
The vans brought us to some place in Johor to eat breakfast. It was just a kopitiam place with cheap food and a pirated dvd shop at the back. After breakfast, we took a 2 hour ride to Gunung Lambak.
At the foot of Lambak is some resort thingy. The whole area is very developed and since it is situated right outside Kluang, there were people hanging out at the resort and playing at the water park (yes, there is a water park!). We met a few locals along the way up and down Lambak, and chatted with them. They were very friendly and gave us directions. However, most of the locals (if not all) we met were somewhat elderly (so fit right?).
We walked up this steep slope to a trail. The trail itself was very wide but later, I realised that the actual trail to the peak was not that trail but only after about 15 to 20 minutes of walk in. Most of the trek was not difficult, especially since the path was clear. However, there were a few steep areas that required the use of hands to grab on to trees and stuff.
The trek itself was actually tiring because the road was steep right from the start. The sun was also on full force so we all perspired a lot. However, we reached the summit surprisingly early at around 1.30pm, taking around an hour and a half to reach the peak. At the top, there’s a heavily vandalised pavilion thingy and some benches overlooking the view. The view was actually quite nice! We had our packed lunch at the pavilion before camwhoring at the summit.
The walk down was not difficult. Some parts were steep but there was no problem because there were trees nearby to hold on to. Actually, the walk down was quite leisurely because it became very easy to talk and walk at the same time. Although there was supposedly one route up and one route down, we did get somewhat lost halfway. We took a turn and ended up along a small stream that we did cross before but at a different point. But we were quite sure we were in the right direction. In the end, we reached a different exit from where we entered. It was not really a bad thing because the exit area had some stands selling fruits and drinks. We also got to see kids playing in the water park that made us quite envious (imagine 20 people standing outside a water park, looking at the pool with a look of longing).
We reached the bottom at around 3.30pm and so we had a lot of time to clean up and relax before setting off to our customary seafood dinner!
Overall, the trek was quite fun. I think I underestimated it as I was climbing up but the climb down was just painful for the knees
